Joining the Tomcat
General Sim Postings
Lieutenant Cody Parker stepped off of the Shuttle and into the Starbase, he had been here previously when stationed on the Tomcat. Taking a deep breath he forged ahead and went to the Officer's Club for a drink. The Tomcat would be docking soon for resupplies and to offload and unload some new crew members.
It had been a couple of years since Cody had been to the Starbase, he left the Tomcat and resigned his role as the Head of Security to pursue a career as a Mission Advisor. It was a role that was quickly growing in Starfleet as the need for it increased.
With his experience as a Department Head and working with Security and Tactical Cody entered the classes with a unique perspective. Most of his classmates were fresh out of the Academy and immediately assigned to the advanced classes. Cody was one of the very few experienced students in his group.
After completing the classes Cody was assigned orders to return to the Tomcat as the Mission Advisor. He couldn't have been more excited. When he left the Tomcat, Captain Somers had not known exactly why he was leaving because he had kept the information quiet.
All of these thoughts ran through his head as he sat there drinking a sweet tea. His attention was distracted momentarily by movement at the door. He watched as another lieutenant walked in the door.
Lieutenant James Taggart stepped off of the transporter pad at the starbase, after quickly thanking the young Ensign manning the controls he followed the signs to the Officer's Club.
The last 6 months of his life had been extremely high and low. It began with his completion of Starfleet Academy with a focus on Engineering. He was immediately selected for the Damage Control Program. Career-wise he couldn't have been happier. Unfortunately as his graduation day approached from his Advanced training; his father's health declined.
His father did get to attend James' graduation but passed away the following week. He took leave and travelled to Mobile to bury his father. His brother who had recently been assigned to the newly commissioned Alabama was able to make it home for the funeral also.
It was difficult for James to leave his mother, she looked so frail and sad as he said goodbye. His father wasn't there with a quick joke to ease the tension or a pat on the back. He hoped she would be ok but knew deep down, that the loss of her husband affected her deeply. Thinking about them nearly brought a tear to James' eye.
He took a deep breath as he walked into the Officer's club. There was another Lieutenant seated at the bar drinking a sweet tea, James couldn't help but smile. This man was obviously Southern also. He quickly ordered a sweet tea and took a seat beside the LT at the bar. "I'm James," he said as he turned to the man beside him.
"I'm Cody, it's nice to meet ya." Lieutenant Parker replied quickly.
"So what brings you out this way, Cody?"
"I'm the new Mission Advisor on the Tomcat, she will be here a little later this evening if the Skipper is still on schedule."
"That's coincidental," replied James quickly, "I'm the new Damage Control officer for the Tomcat. Do you know anything about her Co or the crew?"
"Reckon I do," Cody said, "I used to be the Tac & Security officer before training as the Mission Advisor. Her Skipper is Captain Somers, she is a straight shooter and a great leader. They typically carry a Marine detachment too, those are usually some salty characters, but I tell you what there's no one I'd rather have watching my back than those guys and gals."
James absorbed the information nodding appreciatively. "Thanks for the heads up."
Cody and James continued chatting until they boarded the Tomcat, to begin their respective careers aboard the ship.
